Matchmaker meeting to spark new action on climate change (06/11/07)

The Sheffield Climate Action Groups partnership is holding a matchmaker meeting in the city centre on Tuesday evening.  Up to 50 volunteers will be getting together to discuss climate change and generate ideas for taking action. We will be setting up a series of pioneering ‘climate action groups’. These groups will set their own goals and work towards them over the next six months.

Project Coordinator Rob Pilling said: ‘Many of us are concerned about climate change, but for one reason or another are yet to take the action we would like to. By bringing people together the matchmaker meeting will help to stimulate new collective action .He explained that ‘Climate Action Groups are very flexible – there is something here for everybody. As well as focussing on action, getting involved is sociable and fun – an excellent way to meet new people and to try new things.

Sheffield partnership to promote action on climate change (20/09/07)

The Sheffied Climate Action Groups partnership was launched today at the Clearer Future Conference in Sheffield. The six month pilot will recruit up to 60 volunteers and help them set up a series of pioneering ‘climate action groups’ within the city. The groups will be self-directed. They will set their own goals and decide amongst themselves how best to achieve them.

Groups coordinator Rob Pilling spoke at the launch: This is very exciting – the approach has worked well elsewhere in the country. The challenge is to translate it to Sheffield  and to encourage lots of people to get involved.’

He explained that Climate Action Groups are for anybody who is concerned about climate change and who what to take action and make a difference. The approach is very flexible  – there is something here for everybody. As well as focussing on action – it will also be sociable and fun – an excellent way to meet new people and to try new things.
